A second generation horse trainer, Kristie Kurtze began her riding career as an infant when her father, Bennett Kurtze, an A-AAA trainer and Olympic judge, put her in the saddle with him as he rode Best Bet (which would later become Susan Hutchinson’s famous Champion Hunter.) As a junior rider, Kristie showed successfully in Hunter, Jumper and Equitation Divisions. By her late teens, she was working with her father as the lead rider at the Pacific Horse Center in Elk Grove, California, as well as at his sale horse operation in Southern California. In her early twenties, Kristie rode and taught as Mary Tyng’s Assistant Trainer at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center.
After a short hiatus, Kristie returned as Lead Rider and Instructor alongside her father at Healy Farms in Hidden Valley, California. Once again, Kristie and her students successfully competed in A-AAA Hunter/Jumper shows on the West Coast, taking home an array of blues and championships. She has also judged local shows in California for several decades.
In 2009, Kristie established her own business in Southern California, Kristie Kurtze Show Jumping. She is currently accepting new clients for full and partial training, as well as haul-in lessons and in-house lessons on KK Show Jumping horses. Kristie Kurtze Show Jumping is located at the lovely boarding facility, Pi Equestrian Center in Chino Hills, California.
